San Diego’s major sporting team
Nicknamed both The Pads and The Friars, The San Diego Padres were founded as a National League West division club in 1969. Although the Oakland Athletics, Los Angeles Dodgers and San Francisco Giants are all now based in California, the Padres remain one of only two MLB teams to originally hail from the state alongside the Los Angeles Angels. Unusually, due to the Los Angeles Chargers relocation in 2017, the Padres are also the only other Major League Baseball franchise whose home city doesn’t boast a team in any of the other three major professional sports leagues in the United States. The Padres have won no less than five West Division titles since their formation and picked up National League pennants in both 1984 and 1998. The team has also been portrayed on screen several times, most notably in the 1979 TV movie "The Kid from Left Field" and 2016 Fox drama "Pitch". Don’t miss out on the opportunity to see the long-running franchise in action and take a look at the various San Diego Padres schedule tickets now on offer at StubHub.
From the Qualcomm Stadium to Petco Park
The San Diego Padres originally played their games at the Qualcomm Stadium before moving to Petco Park in 2004. The 40,000-capacity venue also hosts various soccer, golf, rugby sevens and musical events, with Madonna, The Rolling Stones, Billy Joel and Paul McCartney just a few of the iconic names who have performed there. But Petco Park undoubtedly truly comes alive when the Padres take to its field. Fans have witnessed several historic events there, including the largest-attended college baseball game in history: the 2016 Major League Baseball All-Star Game. Several Hall of Famers have taken to the field over the years, including Trevor Hoffman, Mark Piazza and Greg Maddux, while celebrated coaches have included Bruce Bochy, Bud Black and Andy Green. Additionally, the team’s long-running mascot The Swinging Friar is just as integral to the whole gameday experience. You can both buy and sell the San Diego Padres schedule tickets on StubHub.
