Paula Poundstone tour
It's been a long while since Paula Poundstone started making us grin from ear to ear. When she was just 19, she left her first job - bussing tables, to board a bus and perform standup comedy en route. Her laid-back style, controversial wry wit, and sharp intellect quickly proved to be a true jackpot during the '80's, when comedy was booming in the States.
Today, the comedienne is still filling seats with her frank humour and has become one of the country's foremost comics. To see the natural-born talent in flesh, and one of the world's funniest women, pick up your Paula Poundstone tickets at StubHub, a prime spot for all major events' tickets.
A Bumpy Road to Success
An advocate for everyone less fortunate, especially kids, Paula has fostered eight children and has adopted three herself, two daughters and a son.
In 2001, after a run-in with the law and six months in treatment, she managed to get her career back on track and now makes jokes about the experience - ones that will make your cheeks hurt from laughing so hard. In the end, being honest with her audience, the keystone upon which her humour is based, saved her career. Her often improvised, observational wit has brought her many highly-respected awards, including a spot in Comedy Central's List of the 100 Best Standup Comics of All Time and an American Comedy Award's Best Female Standup Comic title.
You might know of Paula through the NPR's number one show Wait... Don't Tell Me, but her charisma stretches far beyond the traditional branches of comedy. She is a writer, standup, columnist, actress, commentator, interviewer and a voice artist, she was the character ''Forgotten Paula'' in the Academy Award-winning animated film from Disney and Pixar - Inside Out.
Paula Poundstone's Background
Born in 1959 in Huntsville Alabama, the beginnings of Paula's comedic success took place in the late '80's, when her HBO comedy specials won her a Cable ACE Award for Best Standup Comedy Special. The following HBO comedy special she created - Paula Poundstone Goes to Harvard, made history as it was the first time a prestigious university has been named in a TV show title. Besides comedy packages, Paula has also entertained viewers with her commentary on the 1992 presidential election featured on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno and is the first woman to ever perform comedy at the White House in its, then 72-year-old history. No doubt crowds will be lining up around the block for a chance to witness humour in its elemental form when Paula steps on stage.
