Background information for purchasers of NHRA tickets
The NHRA was founded in 1951 as the post-war driving boom started to take hold. All over the USA, car owners had started to customise their vehicles, turning ordinary Fords and Chevys into souped up racing monsters. Soon after that, the NHRA started hosting regular events where the sport's most daring and skilled drivers could fight it out for national titles.
Nowadays, professional drag racing in the USA is organised around the NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series, which includes 24 race meets. This schedule culminates at the NHRA Nationals, which are always held in Clermont, Indiana and see competitors racing to win the "Wally" (named after famous drag racer Wally Parks).
Drag racind is divided into five classes: Alcohol dragsters, alcohol funny cars, comp eliminators, super-stock and stock events. The term "funny car" doesn't refer to clown cars, by the way. It just refers to the way that the chassis resembles showroom models of popular cars, as opposed to the classic hot rod or dragster look.
Great moments in NHRA history
As you might expect with an organisation that has lasted since 1951, NHRA events have seen their fair share of epic battles and plenty of motor sports heroes have tested their skills at NHRA venues.
Pat Austin may well be the greatest of them all. Called the most accomplished driver of the 1980s and 90s by the NHRA themselves, Austin dominated a number of vehicle classes from 1985 to 1996 and racked up a total of 62 NHRA wins. No-one else from that era could match numbers like that.
More recently, the top fuel category was dominated by Tony Schumacher in the 2000s. Accumulating eight Mell Yello Finals victories from 1998 until 2014, Schumacher was untouchable for almost a decade. However, from 2014 to 2015, Antron Brown took over his crown, becoming the NHRA's first African American champion in the process.
With the roar of engines, the showbiz glamour of the event and intense competition, NHRA tickets are the perfect option for adrenaline junkies who love motor sport.
