Named after a legacy
Milwaukee: a place well known for making fine beer, and home to some of the best brewers in the country. That is why Milwaukee’s very own professional baseball team, the Milwaukee Brewers, have chosen to carry a name that pays homage to the famous city’s legacy. The Brewers were established in 1969 in Seattle, Washington, as an expansion team of the American League; they played their home games at Sick’s Stadium in Seattle. Due to their original city of origin, the team was first called the Seattle Pilots. The team later relocated to Milwaukee, playing home games at the Milwaukee County Stadium, where they eventually changed their name to the Milwaukee Brewers. The Brewers won the second half of the American East League Division in 1981. The following year, they earned their first World Series appearance after winning the American League pennant and the American League East Division. In 1998, the Brewers switched from the American League to the National League. In 2011, they won five games in the National League Division Series but eventually lost in the National League Championship Series. They earned National League Division titles in 2011 and 2018.
