In 1992, Melissa Etheridge came out publicly and ever since has been famous as a gay rights activist. Etheridge is also well-known as a committed advocate for environmental issue and animal rights. In 2006 she toured North America only using biodiesel and collaborated with Al Gore on his Oscar-winning documentary.
