Brainchild of Jane’s Addiction frontman Perry Farrell
The brainchild of Jane’s Addiction frontman Perry Farrell, Lollapalooza initially began in 1991 as an annual travelling festival based in the United States. The event eventually found a regular home in the shape of Chicago’s Grant Park in 2005, but six years later, organizers staged the first of many international offshoots at O’Higgins Park in Santiago, Chile. Lollapalooza then hit the likes of Brazil, Argentina and Germany before adding France to its roster in 2017. Held at Longchamp Racecourse in Paris, the inaugural Lollapalooza France welcomed the likes of The Weeknd, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Lana Del Rey, Imagine Dragons, Walk off the Earth, Crystal Fighters, Glass Animals, London Grammar, Black Tiger Sex Machine and Liam Gallagher to its three stages, while homegrown acts included psych punk rockers La Femme, superstar DJs Martin Solveig and Tchami and hip-hop outfit IAM. If you haven’t yet experienced the wonders of Lollapalooza in a Parisian setting, then take a look at the various Lollapalooza France tickets now on offer at StubHub.
Homegrown acts and international superstars
More than 50,000 festivalgoers attended the inaugural Lollapalooza France, ensuring that the event became an annual fixture on the European circuit. In 2018, Depeche Mode and Gorillaz served as headliners, with acts further down the bill including Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, Nothing but Thieves and Catfish and the Bottlemen. A year later, homegrown acts such as Jain, Orelsan and Nekfeu joined the likes of Twenty One Pilots, The Strokes, Martin Garrix and Migos, not to mention founder Perry Farrell and his Kind Heaven Orchestra, at the Longchamp Racecourse. A similarly eclectic array of names were announced to take to the Main Stage, Alternative Stage and Perry’s Stage for the fourth edition in 2020, including Grammy-nominated alt-pop sensation Billie Eilish, who chose the festival for the only French stop on her environmentally-friendly "Where Do We Go" world tour. Spread across the weekend, Lollapalooza France also offers attendees a whole host of food and drink options, a wide range of merchandise and various other ways to enjoy the Parisian summer sunshine.
