The world's funniest Australian
Born Dennis Bryant in Sydney in 1947, Kevin Bloody Wilson makes use of his heavy and distinctive Australian accent as he performs his musical comedy. His work is always funny and very often close to the knuckle with its sexual themes. Although born in Sydney, Wilson strongly identifies with Kalgoorlie in Western Australia where he spent time as an electrician in the gold mines. As Bryan Dennis, he fronted his own band in the '70s, Bryan Dennis and the Country Club and carried on using that name while hosting a country music show on Kalgoorlie's radio 6KG. This part of his career came to an ignominious end after six years when he was thrown off air in 1980 for playing the parody “I'm Heaving on a Jet Plane”!
A move to Perth followed and the rounds of the pub and club circuit started during which time he put together a cassette of his songs to sell. Called Your Average Australian Yobbo it sold 22,000 copies as a cassette in 1984 before transferring to LP when it sold many thousands more. Since this release, Wilson has produced nearly one album a year.
Kevin Bloody Wilson - a man still going places
Kevin Bloody Wilson is a workaholic comic, continuing to tour and averaging 120 concerts a year around the world, helped by the fact that his wife Betty travel with him as a guest vocalist. His daughter Jenny “Tammy Jo” Talia sometimes accompanies them and is also known for her bawdy country songs. Despite the sexual innuendo in his songs and the often politically incorrect material, Wilson isn't afraid to break the Aussie mould and own up to being a romantic, saying that he regularly buys his wife flowers.
