Ecuador National Football Team history
Ecuador’s first international match was played against the well known Bolivian national team in the very same city of Bogotá. This match was a very tough one; however, the game ended in a tie. Nevertheless, Ecuador still needed lots of training and lots of experience, for they didn’t manage to enter important international tournaments until 1939, when they finally participated for the first time in the Copa America competition and reached fifth place. Since that year, the Ecuadorian national team has participated on numerous occasions, with their best result being fourth place in 1993. In 2002 Ecuador qualified for the Football World Cup, their first appearance at the prestigious tournament, sending all Ecuadorian fans wild. In 2006, they once again qualified and even made it to the Round of 16, before being knocked out by England. Although the Ecuadorian national team has had to struggle a lot during all these years, they’ve also had a spell of good luck. It was in 1975 when Ecuador proved the world what they were worth. A home game played against Peru was the one that drove the crowd wild, and they won having scored six goals and giving Peru no chance whatsoever to score any goals.
They have continued to play in different international competitions with mixed results. Time has passed, so it may be appropriate to ask at this point- how will they do in their future challenges? Buy your Ecuador football tickets here and now and find it out for yourself! Enjoy one of the biggest events in the world live!
