Colin Hay background
Hay was born in Saltcoats, on the west coast of Scotland and moved to Australia while still in his teens. In 1978, Hay and Ron Strykert formed the band Men at Work. They released their debut album Business as Usual in 1981 and went on to experience international success, selling 30 millions records worldwide and topping the charts in Australia, New Zealand, the UK and the USA.
The band split up in 1986 and Colin Hay started his solo career, performing gigs in small, low key venues and releasing low-key albums to little commercial success. His career returned on an upward trajectory when he appeared in hit US comedy series Scrubs in 2003. Colin Hay was filmed performing an acoustic version of his song "Overkill". This would be the first of many times that he was to appear on the show and, in doing so, exposed him to millions of viewers around the world.
Since then, Colin Hay has gone on to tour with Ringo Starr, Barenaked Ladies as well as sharing a stage with the likes of Kings of Leon, and Of Monsters and Men. Hay has also had a profound influence on other musicians with both James Hetfield of Metallica and Jeremiah Fraites of the Lumineers citing him as an influence.
