Borussia Mönchengladbach, the fifth-largest club in Germany, was founded in 1900 and joined the Bundesliga in 1965, where it enjoyed a lot of its success in the 1970s, winning five league championships with a fit, young team who played an aggressive, attacking style of football. While the team experienced something of a slow-down in success between the 1980s and the first decade of the twenty-first century, even experiencing relegation, albeit briefly, they got a new lease of life in 2010 when they reached the round of 16 in the DFB Cup for the first time in 5 years.
