A piece of music history
Originally from the city of Minneapolis, Minnesota, Atmosphere was created in 1989 and has shared the stage with well-known bands such as Nirvana, Foo Fighters, Radiohead, Metallica, Pearl Jam, and Red Hot Chili Peppers. How did this band form and how have they stayed so relevant in today’s competitive music industry? Created by high school friends Sean Daley and Derek Turner, who took on pseudonyms Slug and D-Spawn, the hip hop duo gained popularity with the album "Overcast!" in 1997. One of their songs in particular "Scapegoat", received great airplay in college radio stations and helped them build their popularity. It wasn’t until two years later that they reached fame with "Headshots Se7en", their second full-length album which was first released in audiocassette format and only years later in 2005, on CD. This album quickly became a success thanks to songs such as "Heart", "Deer Wolf", "Molly Cool" and "To The Break of Sean", and it is still considered one of the band’s best albums by music critics. The band then went on to produce equally acclaimed albums such as "Ford and Lucy Ford", God Loves Ugly, "You Can’t Imagine How Much Fun We’re Having" and "Mi Vida Local". Inspiration from all angles
Working with other artists is without doubt a great source of inspiration and a way to grow and improve. This could be part of Atmosphere’s secret to always remaining at the forefront of the music scene. The duo has collaborated with a number of other bands and artists such as Brother Ali, Murs, Aesop Rock, Living Legends and Musab, and has more than once cited such groups work as part of its charm. Another important way to stay inspirited is through regular engagement and contact with their audience – another important reason for you to get Atmosphere tickets! The duo is also well-known for their lyrical content. A prominent theme, for example, especially in earlier works is the figurative use of women. "Lucy" which was the name of an entire album, stands for both the relationships Slug had with past girlfriends and also his use of drugs and alcohol – ‘Lucy Ford’ is a wordplay for ‘Lucifer’.
