Asgeir Trausti background
Asgeir Trausti was born in the tiny Icelandic hamlet Laugarbakki in 1992. Amazingly, the hamlet had a population of just forty people! Trausti grew up in a musical family and learned to play the piano at a young age. Asgeir was an overnight success in his native Iceland, where the then 21-year-old released his debut album Dýrð í dauðaþögn. This album went on to break all sorts of records in Iceland and it's estimated that almost 10% of Iceland's population own a copy of the album. The album peaked at number one in Iceland and also in Denmark, winning Asgeir Trausti a 2012 Kraumur award as well as Album of the Year at the Icelandic Music Awards. In 2013, after recruiting the help of Iceland-based American singer-songwriter John Grant, Asgeir released a English-language version of his successful debut album. The album, titled In the Silence charted in several countries, including Australia and England.
In 2017, Asgeir released his second album Afterglow. Leaving behind the acoustic guitar and wistful electronic tracks, the new Asgeir album is a bolder, more experimental composition, with complex electronic textures. Afterglow has received rave reviews and was named Triple J feature album. With singles like "Unbound" (a stunning, yearning piece of music) and "Stardust" (ambitious electro-pop). The new album left no doubt that Asgeir is an artist at the very top of his game. Just like the single "King and Cross" from his first album, "Stardust" has seen Asgeir Trausti added to radio playlists across the globe. Now, with numerous festival appearances to his name, like Splendour in the Grass (Australia) and Fuji Rock Festival (Japan), this is the best chance to buy Asgeir tickets before they inevitably all sell out.
