Andrew Dice Clay's Background
“The Diceman” started his comedy career in 1978 when he auditioned for a place in the line-up at his local comedy club, Pips. He started with comedic impressions, headlining at the comedy club and building his initial fan base. Some of his most notable impressions were of John Travolta in his movie Grease and Jerry Lewis in his movie The Nutty Professor. His character “The Diceman” was only supposed to be a side character, but audiences loved it. He soon developed the persona as a fulltime act and found himself in the major clubs around Manhattan.
It wasn’t until the ‘80s that his career kicked off due to a move to Los Angeles. He starred in TV shows like Diff’rent Strokes and M*A*S*H, before moving into movies including Pretty in Pink and Making the Grade. In the latter, he played his character “Dice,” which led to a character he portrayed off-screen for his stand-up roles. His major breakout role happened in 1988, when he performed during Rodney Dangerfield’s special Nothing Goes Right.
